Sony mirrorless cameras have the ability to load apps for use in the camera to create a number of interesting effects (https://www.playmemoriescameraapps.com/portal). While many dismiss these as 'toys' I'm finding that some can be quite useful. One of these apps is called the Smooth Reflection app. This app lets you easily take magical long-exposure photos that normally require an ND filter. For example, you can make lakes covered with ripples look as smooth as glass. The Smooth Reflection app creates fantastical long-exposure effects without an attached ND filter by combining a sequence of continuous shots into one photo.
While there are number of presets, I prefer to use the custom mode where I can set the number of exposures for the app to combine. In the examples below, each is a composite of 128 images. Exposure length for each image was generally under 1 sec or whatever the scene called for. The results is an image that emulates the use of an ND filter. This becomes quite valuable for certain lenses with fixed hoods or if I simply left my ND filters at home!
